Swiper1 Bluetooth Device
Connecting via Bluetooth
Step 1 — Install the Swiper1 App on your Mobile Phone or Tablet
Apple and Android Users
Download the Swiper1 app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and install it on your device. If you already have the Swiper1 app, check to see you are updated to the latest version. When installing the app, you must Approve ALL App Permissions and/or Requested Access to insure functionality of the Swiper1 device.
Step 2 — Enable Bluetooth
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone or tablet before launching the app:
- iOS: Settings → Bluetooth
- Android: Settings → Connected Devices → Bluetooth
⚠️ Important: Do not pair the Click & Pledge reader through your phone's Bluetooth settings. Pairing must be done exclusively within the Swiper1 app.
Step 3 — Pair the Card Reader Device in the Swiper1 App
- Launch the Swiper1 app and log in. (For login help, see the Swiper1: How to Login article.)
- Power on the Click & Pledge reader by holding the power button for approximately 3 seconds.
- In the app, tap the Menu icon.
- Tap Device Manager.
- Select the Swiper1-Bluetooth device from the list.
- Under Available Bluetooth Devices, any active Click & Pledge readers will appear, identified by the last 4 digits of their serial number. (This number can be found on the back of the card reader.) Tap the device name and confirm that the word "Connected" appears.
- If no devices appear, verify that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone or table.
- Best Practice: If using multiple card readers and mobile devices at an event, keep a list of which card reader devise is paired with which mobile device or tablet.
- Reminder: When ready to process transactions, switch from Test to Production mode: Tap "Menu" icon > Merchant Profile. Tap the “Production” checkbox and “Save Changes.”
Accepting Payments
With the Swiper1 card reader, you may Swipe, Insert, or Tap credit cards.
- Have the card oriented correctly (see pictures below)
- When swiping the card, keep the card parallel with the bottom of the Swiper1.
- Pull at a consistent speed.
- Do not swipe the card too fast.
Swipe (Magnetic Stripe / MSR)
- Face the front of the card toward you.
- Keep the card close to the bottom of the slot and swipe horizontally in one smooth motion.
- The magnetic stripe side of the card should face toward the back of the terminal.
Insert (IC Chip Card)
- Insert the IC card into the chip card slot.
- Ensure the chip faces up and is inserted in the direction indicated by the arrow on the terminal.
Tap (NFC / Contactless)
- Hold the card, phone, or contactless device near the TAP symbol on the front of the reader.
- Keep the card steady until the transaction is confirmed.
⚠️ Important Caution: Tap (NFC/contactless) transactions do not capture the cardholder's name. If the cardholder name is required for your records, it must be entered manually after the transaction. For this reason, inserting or swiping the card is the preferred method, as both capture the cardholder name automatically.
After swiping, if the data has been read, the card information will populate the fields.
- If it does not populate, try swiping the other direction (right-to-left vs. left-to-right) or remove and reinsert the card if using chip.
- If the “Re_Swipe” and “Manual entry” buttons appear and you choose “Re_Swipe” follow the instructions under “WAIT…” again.
- If you would rather do “Manual entry” then enter the credit card information in each field.
- Enter the email address of the patron so they can receive a receipt via email. This must always be entered manually unless you are connect to Salesforce using Contact Lookup, and the email field is populated.
Press “Next” and then “OK” to process the transaction.
Reminder: if the Swiper1 app is in “Test” mode, the card will decline and not be charged and no receipt will be sent. We recommend you do a couple test swipes in “Test” mode. Then switch to production and do a small ($0.50) transaction as a final test.
In “Production” mode, you should receive a message that says that your transaction was successful.
