The NPSP, or Nonprofit Success Pack, is a package many nonprofits use. We have developed integration with three popular NPSP features including Recurring, Pledge, and GAU, to assist with tracking payments processed through Click & Pledge.
This article includes:
Location of NPSP Integration
From the Click & Pay Suite Launcher go to Settings > Third Party > NPSP Integration. Here you will see tabs for Recurring, Pledge, and GAU Allocations.
NPSP Recurring
Overview of NPSP Recurring
NPSP has its own recurring transactions which are related to opportunities. So an Opportunity will have a NPSP Recurring ID as a custom field added to it then when you look at the related list, you will see the opportunities that are assigned to that NPSP Recurring ID.
Overview of Click & Pledge Recurring Integration
Click & Pledge recurring works in a similar way, but it is automated. As soon as the recurring donation is created through your Click & Pledge account, that recurring will show the opportunities related to it in a field called CNP Recurring ID.
Click & Pledge’s Integration linking C&P Recurring to NPSP Recurring
Note the conditions listed in this area to auto-create the NPSP recurring donation:
- If not already linked to an NPSP recurring.
- There is one line item.
- Tax, Discount, and Shipping are either not applied or set to zero.
When you activate Auto Create NPSP Recurring:
- Existing Recurring Transactions are reviewed and if a match is found, the opportunities will be linked.
- Once “Auto Create NPSP Recurring” is active, when a new Click & Pledge recurring starts, an equal NPSP recurring is created for it. The Click & Pledge Recurring ID and NPSP Recurring ID will be the same.
When you activate Auto Sync Opportunities:
Let’s say the recurring transaction has had 12 recurring transactions already, if you enable Auto Sync Opportunities, we will create a new NPSP recurring ID and sync all the previous opportunities to show in the new NPSP Recurring and add it to all the opportunities.

Pledge
NPSP Pledge Overview
A pledge is a promise to give a specific amount. Unlike recurring transactions that are the same amounts with defined increments, a pledge can be paid down in varying amounts at various times. When a pledge is created with NPSP it creates a payment record of that opportunity. The payment record will show as a check box, as the payment is not paid. Each NPSP Pledge also has a corresponding Pledge ID.
Pledge Matching
With the pledge matching conditions, you create your pledge rule so when a transaction posts, it checks your conditions and will apply the amount to your pledge if it matches your conditions. To do this, you create your pledge rule based on SKUs and select your Opportunity Stage(s).
Be sure to note the conditions for NPSP Pledge Payment Matching listed at the top of this area. They include:
- Not a recurring payment.
- Tax, Discount, and Shipping are either not applied or set to zero.
- Opportunity "C&P SKU" matches the condition.
- Payments will be assigned/updated/set if Item SKU matches exactly
- Opportunity Stage matches the stage, as set below
As you are creating your pledge rule, there are some things you may wish to consider. For instance, do you want every payment from a donor to count towards their Pledge? What if the donor buys a book? Would you want this book purchase to be applied to the Pledge or not?
When you create an NPSP Pledge, you can add a CNP SKU to it. Using SKUs, you can control which transactions you wish to be applied toward a Pledge. So, let’s say you sell items and accept donations. Items could include “item” in the SKU and donations could include “don” in the SKU. This way, if you wanted to only include transactions with the “don” SKU to count towards pledges, you could.
Or let’s say, you want every transaction your patron makes to be applied to a pledge. You could set the Match SKU condition to “Any or Blank” then choose your Opportunity Stage(s) for your pledges. You do need to choose one or more Opportunity Stages for your pledge rule.
Allow Overpay
Do you wish to allow extra payments to be applied to a pledge? Let’s say that a pledge was made for $1,000, but the donor gave $1,200. Do you want the pledge to reflect the original $1,000 amount or have the pledge reflect the $1,200? Allow Overpay would reflect the additional amount.
Balance the remainder with an Open Payment
If you choose this option, when a payment is made toward a pledge, it will delete any existing open payments and calculate the new open payment. Essentially it will consolidate the payments into one paid payment and one unpaid payment, instead of the multiple payment plan structure which may not be necessary with this automated way of accepting pledge payments.
Auto Adjust Stage
Based on your Percentages, you can automatically update the stage of your pledge.

Pledge Verify
Pledge Verify provides you a Proof of Concept. Use the lookup to identify if a contact has a pledge that will be satisfied with the above rule. Pledge Verify verifies your rule.
The integration Click & Pledge has with NPSP Pledge is similar to how recurring works. It’s about matching to an opportunity. When NPSP Pledge is created it has a Pledge ID. When a payment comes in, use Pledge Matching to design how you want pledges matched.
GAU Allocations
Click +NEW button to create a new allocation. Be sure to note the GAU integration policies listed:
- Exit after the first match
- If the total allocations do not equal 100%, the following allocation will be added to make up the difference, as per NPSP default allocation settings
Use the parameters provided to create the match for your GAU. Use the lookup to find your GAU and enter the allocation %.
