Best Practices for selecting your Custom Domain for Peer-to-Peer Site
We expect most of our customers have a domain they have registered for their nonprofit’s website. Our best recommendation when selecting a domain name is that you use a subdomain of your existing domain for your Peer-to-Peer Site domain.
What is a Subdomain? Subdomains are used to organize your website. For example, let’s say our domain is YourDomain.org. If we wish to use subdomains, we could create ones like the following:
Fundraise.YourDomain.org
Support.YourDomain.org
Social.YourDomain.org
Friends.YourDomain.org
In the above examples, the subdomain is the portion shown before a domain name, separated by a dot (.)
We recommend using a subdomain since it does not require purchasing/registering a new domain. Simply decide the subdomain you wish to use and enter that with your domain into the Domain field. Do not add http, https, or www before the subdomain.
Refer to example below.
Other options
While we anticipate most customers with use the subdomain.domain.org option for their domain choice for Peer-to-Peer Site, you do have other options including:
New Domain
If you feel your Peer-to-Peer Site needs a separate domain from your existing one, you can purchase/register a new domain and enter that domain in the Domain field.
Replace your existing website
If you wish to replace your existing website with the one you create with Peer-to-Peer Site, then our recommendation is to build out your website on Peer-to-Peer Site first, then come to Custom Domain and enter in your existing domain to go through the process to point your domain to Peer-to-Peer Site.
