Our SMSgiving allows you to add text-to-give to your fundraising efforts. Unlike traditional text-to-give programs through cellular providers, you add your organization's brand, set your own donation amounts, and receive the funds by direct deposit.

How SMSgiving Works
Our SMSgiving solution is available in your Click & Pledge account. It works through our integration with Twilio. Twilio's Programmable SMS gives your organization the ability to receive text messages to a phone number. Once you have opened your Twilio account and integrated it with your Click & Pledge account, you are ready to set up SMSgiving Messages to respond when your Twilio number receives texts.
Then encourage your supporters to text your call-to-action or scan a QR code. They receive an SMSgiving message in response with a link to donate.
New Regulations in 2023
A2P 10DLC
New legation has been enacted to reduce the number of spam SMS messages. As a result, anyone using SMS with Twilio for business/nonprofit communications is required to register. You will need to login to your Twilio account and complete it.
For more information on A2P 10DLC: https://support.twilio.com/hc/en-us/articles/1260800720410-What-is-A2P-10DLC-
And refer to this for Twilio pricing information: What pricing and fees are associated with the A2P 10DLC service? - Twilio Help Center
If you need assistance working through the new regulations, we encourage you to reach out to Twilio's support team. This is available here: https://help.twilio.com/
Register your Nonprofit
As a Nonprofit with an EIN, you will need to register as a Nonprofit Corporation. Twilio refers to this as “Standard” Registration. Here is Twilio's documentation:
https://www.twilio.com/docs/messaging/compliance/a2p-10dlc/direct-standard-onboarding
To Navigate to this area, go to Account > TrustHub > Customer Profiles, to register a Primary Customer Profile.
Branding and Use Case Compliance
Also, you may be prompted to register your brand and provide a use case of how you are using this feature.
During this process you may be provide a field labeled “Opt-in workflow image URLs.”

Integrate a Twilio account with CONNECT
Begin by connecting your Twilio account with your Click & Pledge account in CONNECT > Settings. Here are the steps.
- Sign up with Twilio. We encourage nonprofits to visit Twilio.org to learn about their credits and nonprofit discounts.
- Get a Twilio phone number.
- Set the phone number's Messaging Webhook URL as: https://twilio.smsgiving.org/TwilioSMS/SMSHandler
- Collect the Phone Number, the Account SID, and Auth Token from your Twilio Project.
- Enter items from #4 in CONNECT > Settings > 3rd party Integrations > SMSgiving- Twilio
Create an SMSgiving Form and Message
Then create your donation form and a "Matching Message". When you create a Matching Message, you define when the Matching Message is active, the text your patron should send to your Twilio number to trigger a response, the text of the response they will receive, and the SMSgiving donation form included as a link.
SMSgivings Relationship with CONNECT Campaigns
If you relate SMSgiving with a CONNECT Campaign, transactions through the SMSgiving payment form will be added to the CONNECT Campaign totals. Since SMSgiving payment forms are created and managed within SMSgiving, SMSgiving’s payment settings supersede the payment settings in CONNECT’s Campaigns (Campaigns > Campaign Details > Payment Settings) but there are relationships in the following areas: Payment Methods/Cards, Receipt Information, GiveBig Campaign Integration, Campaign Fraud Settings, and Live Stream/Patron Comments.
Relate SMSgiving to a Campaign
To relate the SMSgiving form to a CONNECT Campaign, go to SMSgiving > Messages > Matching Messages > Message
Here are the details on how these CONNECT Campaign Detail settings work with SMSgiving:
Payment Methods/Cards : SMSgiving only accepts credit card payments. Under Payment Methods/Cards you may enable/disable Discover and American Express as payment options. Visa and MasterCard are always enabled.
Custom Questions : When linked to a CONNECT campaign, the SMSgiving form presents the same custom questions as the ones created for that campaign.
Receipt Information : With CONNECT, Campaigns receipts can be emailed to patrons. When you link SMSgiving to a CONNECT Campaign, email receipts will be sent based on the settings in “Receipt Information.”
GiveBig Campaign Integration : This menu item is only available to customers who participate in a GiveBig, or giving day, Campaign. If you participate in a GiveBig and have your GiveBig Campaign selected under this CONNECT Campaign, when donations are accepted through the linked SMSgiving product, those transactions will be added to both the CONNECT Campaign totals and your GiveBig campaign totals.
Campaign Fraud Settings : Fraud Policies may be managed here. Click & Pledge provides all customers fraud protection through our “Standard Default Policy.” If you choose to use a custom fraud policy, then your organization accepts the responsibility for all fees that may be incurred as a result of your custom fraud policy.
Live Stream / Patron Comments : A Live Steam of activity including Patron names and comments can be enabled on your CONNECT.ClickandPledge.com (and GiveBig if applicable) page.
Recycling Payment Forms
To save our customers valuable time, we have a payment form recycling tool to allow customers to import payment forms and/or receipts into other Click & Pledge accounts. When a payment page or receipt is imported into another account the forms design elements are imported.
SMSgiving in Salesforce
Applies to Salesforce Users ONLY
SMSgiving fields are reported in Salesforce under Donor Management's (PaaS) Transaction Detail page. SMSgiving is a feature of CONNECT, and is unrelated to the Salesforce SMS Autoresponder.
Although both features offer a text response to a specified received text, they must have separate Twilio numbers because SMSgiving is received by CONNECT, whereas Autoresponder is received by our Donor Management Salesforce app (PaaS).
